About Monty

For most folks, fly fishing and fly tying are hobbies. For Monty Monplaisir those hobbies became a lifestyle and a profession for about 20 years. During the ‘70’s and ‘80’s, articles written by or about Monty appeared in: Fly Fisherman, Fly Tyer, Rod and Reel, The Flyfisher, Outdoor Life, Field and Stream, and New Hampshire Profiles. His credits also include: guest speaker, fly casting instructor, photographer, and fly tying instructor.

In 1988 The Art of the Trout Fly, by Judith Dunham, was published and showcased the work of international Master Fly Tiers. When one of Monty's flies was included in the book, he decided to retire from the business with pride and praise.

During the years that followed, Monty pursued his new career working for the federal government. In 2004, he retired from the Department of Homeland Security where he served as a Primary Firearms Instructor and Senior Inspector with the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection. He now spends his winter carving decoys at a leisurely pace, producing about a dozen per year. Their craftsmanship and "detailed" painting are gaining the attention of collectors.

Monty is a member of the Connecticut River Artisans Group and some of his decoys are featured at www.fiddleheadsusa.com. Fiddleheads is an artisan quality gift shop offering all medium types by artisans throughout New England, the U.S.A and Canada. Credit card processing for sales of his decoys, is available online at their web site.

Monty has been working with web designer, Roxanne Herres of Sunny Valley Creations for several years. Updating his website with products, photos and descriptions, Roxanne has featured  Canard Decoys on Sunny Valley Creations web design portfolio page.
